Afro-Feminist Coloring Books

This Inspirational Coloring Book Touches on Crucial Social Issues

Atlanta-based artist Makeda Lewis has created a very inspirational coloring book. The pages of this book center on afro-feminism in addition to other important social factors.

The coloring book is titled 'Avies Dreams' and it is unlike any coloring book kids or adults have seen before. Reported by Blavity, this inspirational coloring book tackles themes including afrocentricity, death, feminism, gender identity, power dynamics and rebirth. Though this is a coloring book, it tells the story of a girl named Avie and the dreams that made her realize that she is "subsequently institutionalized due to her lack of motivation for living conventionally."

'Avies Dreams' is labelled as an adult coloring book but with such a strong message of acceptance, love and equality, this book makes the perfect children's gift.
