New Research that Can Extend Human Life

What is injectable oxygen and how does it work?

Medical researchers at Boston Children’s Hospital have discovered a way to extend the life of someone who’s having trouble breathing -- or has stopped breathing altogether, giving them an extra fighting chance of survival.
The team designed tiny, gas-filled microparticles that are stored in a layer of fat and placed in a liquid to safely be injected into someone’s bloodstream.
Dr. John Kheir began the project when a patient of his lost her life due to low oxygen levels. The doctors were not able to get her onto a lung-heart machine fast enough.

This new technology would be extremely useful in ambulances, as the injectable oxygen can keep someone alive for 15 to 30 minutes, hopefully long enough to get the patient to the closest hospital.

This impressive step forward in medical research is just one example of the dedication and drive medical researchers have to helping other people’s lives.
