Having wifi access on airplanes will still feel like a novelty to some, and soon Delta Air Lines will offer free in-flight messaging. This follows other recent tech-focused moves from the airline including biometric boarding pass replacements and facial recognition baggage tags in the last year. Beginning October 1st, you will be able to message your loved ones for free, even when they are 30,000 feet in the air.

The in-flight messaging will be available to passengers on domestic as well as international flights on planes equipped with Gogo Inflight Internet. This includes almost all of the aircraft in America's second largest airline. The messaging will be limited to text only and will not initially support video, photo or audio, but apps like WhatsApp, iMessage and Facebook Messenger will configure automatically.
