The Imprint Movement Started with Street Harassment and Expanded

The Imprint Movement is an Egyptian social organization that started with the desire to end street harassment against women but has now expanded to include a number of issues. This expansion will hopefully continue alongside the team's participation in the 2014 Unreasonable Launchpad.

"Bassma, meaning imprint, because [founder] Nihal wants to 'leave a mark wherever we go,' now comprises a growing number of women and men who form street patrols, effectively preventing assaults on women in public by talking to the assailants and drawing attention to their behaviour," wrote the Guardian journalist Rosie Swash in 2012.

The Imprint Movement was started in 2011 and currently includes the main components of women's self-esteem, self-defense, legal advice, psychological support and raising awareness in Egyptian society at large.
