Vedran Misic Uses His War Memories to Express Peace

Verdan Misic's spectacularly intricate icon illustrations are of figures he has been positively influenced by throughout his life and are all drawn using markers.

The artist grew up in a violent environment in Sarajevo, Bosnia where he has his mother had to eventually relocate from in 1994. Inspired by Ghandi's non-violent tactics of peacemaking, the artist started expressing his appreciation and longing for harmony through his artwork. The wonderful drawing illustrating the major peace figures in pop culture and history are done in superbly a kaleidoscopic and psychedelic manner.

Verdan Misic explains his manner of art making as a way to "express [his] emotions tied to the war memories and the culture shock of [his] new life and in America." As the artists explains his vision, his complex compositions become that much more meaningful.
