Hydrogen-Powered Concept Ferries

This Ferry Would Make Water Travel More Energy-Efficient

A group of engineers and scientists working out of Sandia National Laboratories are working on an innovative, high-tech and groundbreaking new hydrogen-powered concept ferry that is looking to revolutionize boat-based travel by making it more eco-friendly and more quiet.

Tested in the San Francisco Bay, this hydrogen-powered concept ferry is equipped with a hull that's longer than usual, with hydrogen stored in a specially enclosed area in order to prevent hazards. The boat will be capable of maintaining a top speed of 35 knots for over half the time it spends on the move.

This hydrogen-powered concept ferry could be a true trailblazer in that, even though it would be expensive, it would make boat travel quieter and more energy-efficient.
