Poignantly Pixelated Art

Hwans Lim Depicts Contemporary and Timeless Relationships

Singapore-based illustrator and graphic designer Hwans Lim recently released a couple of images on her Behance page that contrasts the bond between a mother and her child against the nature of the relationship people have with modern technology.

The illustrations are rendered in an inventive and original format. Instead of merely drawing a mother and child, Lim realizes her concept through a multitude of variously colored squares. In a clever, subtle nod to technology, the aesthetic is quite reminiscent of pixelated designs and retro 8-bit graphics.

The first image depicts a young mother holding a baby set against a large heart that itself is contrasted against a white tiled background. In the second image, the artist suggests that people have become shackled to modern technology.
