The FANtastico Huge Paper Fan Features Thousands of Cutouts

To celebrate design week in New York, Spanish design firm Wanda Barcelona created a huge paper fan window installation for the W Hotel Union Square’s display.

The FANtastico huge paper fan took Wanda Barcelona over 6,000 paper pieces to create, and was inspired by Spain’s opulent history with the feminine fan accessory. A collection of several styles of paper cutouts, the FANtastico fan includes square, diamond, oval and circular shapes with varying edge styles from rigid to serrated. The frame is completely handcrafted out of wood shaped into lovely curved and arched pieces. Literally the size of a store-front window, the FANtastico is fully functional and can open and close like a real fan.

An alluringly angelic, but fragile, work of art, this huge paper fan is definitely a remarkable design feat.
