The idea for the Oh Pen came to the designer while walking through the aisles at a trade show. Here, the designer saw a playing card with a hole in it and a pen going through; the surprising magical effect seemed appealing. Combining this with a real function seemed like a good idea for a product.
Prototyping was easy, as the team took ready-made pencils and pens, drilled some holes and planted mini magnets to check the concept. Finally, a simple yet classic design was decided upon resembling a pencil, but in an octagonal shape. The main problem was to get the balance between the front and back parts right without neglecting the comfort of writing, eventually solved with a metal weight inserted in the back part.
The result is a simplistic pen that also doubles as a stand.
