Utilizing blackened timber, concrete and glass, architecture firm William Kaven creates a house construction that is able to withstand the harsh winter weather conditions on the shore of Northern Michigan. While designed to shield the structure and its residents from the frequent storms and gales, Camp Minoh is also arranged to maximize the mesmerizing views of Lake Michigan.
The property is abundant with pine and birch trees, which definitely add a holistic natural element to the site. William Kaven installed a sizable concrete patio for warm weather months, as well. The exterior house construction consists of a "board-marked" concrete lower level, as well as a timber-made second-storey facade. The architects used a Japanese technique that "extends the life of wood and [is] ideal for standing up to extreme weather."
