Located along the shoreline of an idyllic lake in Tenala, Finland, House Akerudden takes advantage of its natural surroundings for its construction materials. The house, designed by Finnish architecture firm MNy Arkitekter, was built with seven different types of timber sourced from the surrounding woods to give it a traditional appearance that complements its seclusion.
While the unvarnished wood facade and gabled aluminum roof contribute to House Akerudden's traditional style, its materials prove that it is an authentically created shelter. The house's support structure is made from locally sourced spruce that is left exposed in various sections of the interior. The foundation is built from oak batons and lengths of aspen. Inside, the walls are paneled with black alder, and the floor is of Oregon pine sourced from a neighboring forest.
