Horizontal Skyscraper Concepts

Herzog & De Meuron Restore the Badaevskiy Brewery in Moscow

After its horizontal campuses for the Berggruen Institute outside Los Angeles, Swiss architectural firm Herzog & De Meuron reveals its plans for a set of horizontal skyscrapers in Moscow. The two unconventional residential blocks will be raised 35 meters off the ground via stilts.

The spatial positioning of the horizontal skyscrapers is strategic. Herzog & De Meuron were commissioned to draft a proposal to bring life to a former brewery in Moscow. Due to its historic status, however, the building height limit was set at 75 meters. The architectural studio dubs its design "a piece of city, lifted up in the air." Due to the modern aesthetic and the unconventional form of the horizontal skyscrapers, Herzog & De Meuron's proposal is sure to be complimentary to both the historic site and the developing urban city.
