Home Energy Managment Center to Be Released at 2010 CES

Energy reseller Direct Energy, as well as appliance and gadget makers and sellers like Whirlpool, Best Buy, and OpenPeak, reportedly plan to launch a home energy management device called the Home Energy Management (HEM) center at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show on January 7.

The HEM will include both software and hardware, use an "open platform" from OpenPeak and take advantage of smart meter data. The device will work with Whirlpool smart energy dryers and Lennox smart thermostats and offer communication and social networking features.
