Camera-Packing Air Conditioners

These Hitachi X-Series Air Conditioners Have Cameras and Sensors

This Hitachi X-Series line of air conditioners, also called the Shirokuma-kun X-Series, is a truly fantastic innovation in air conditioning. These air conditioning units are embedded with cameras and sensors that help them to better redirect cool, refreshing air to those parts of the room where there are people or that just happen to be warm. They can even direct air around obstacles.

The Hitachi X-Series air conditioners feature a thermal camera to spot the warm and cold areas of a room, a regular camera to track the presence of people and an infrared camera that looks for obstacles. The cameras work in conjunction with three flaps that direct cold air from the unit to the room.

These air-conditioning units range in price for around $2,200 to $3,600 and look like they're only available in Japan for now.
