Spanish studio Exit Architects designed 'Haus M,' a skiing and hiking retreat located in Austria's Vorarlberg region, as a getaway for a family of four.
The wooden home features a rectilinear form that stands out amidst the more traditional neighboring houses. Exit's Iban Caprintero explains, "This valley remains pretty conservative. In fact, this is the first house in the area that adopts a radical modern aspect, which was provocative for some neighbors."
The timber material the house is made of was chosen for its affordability, as well as its ability to blend with the surrounding area, known as a center for wood production. In fact, fir wood is the most common local wood for the area. Similarly, the flat roof that differentiates the house from the others was more cost-efficient, as well as more modern.
