NumberNet High-Tech Desks Help Kids Raise Their Aptitude in Math

Britain’s Durhan University has been pursuing a three year project based on improving children’s competency in math by using high-tech desks.

The desks are touch screen and operate through a system that is able to detect infrared light. These innovative tables allow for students to interact with its other classmates in a much easier and efficient way, which will result in improving their math skills. The teacher has main control over the desks and is able to hand out math problem sets to the desks as well as control. The project has been found to be largely successful as collaborating with other students have been helping children increase their fluency in understanding math.

The success of these high tech desks is all in the number: "86 students showed that 45 percent of the students using the desks increased the number of unique mathematical expressions they can solve, while only 16 percent of students working on traditional paper saw the same sort of increase."
