High Desert Dream Homes

Million Dollar Architecture in Priceless Idaho Surroundings

Jan McFarland Cox, an artist and designer in her own right, enlisted architect Tom Kundig to help her design a house in southern Idaho’s high desert. It took nearly a decade and a million dollars for the project to be brought to completion.

Despite delays, McFarland Cox persevered. The end-result is a sculptural cube brought to life by the landscape that surrounds it. The warm comfort of the home juxtaposes a setting of environmental extremes and required many hard-to-find items to complete it.

The natural and recycled materials conspire with an open floor plan to make the home a sanctuary in which to contemplate the world.
