Homey Heritage House Renovations

B.L.U.E. Architecture Studio Gives New Life to an Old Kyoto Home

Beijing-based firm B.L.U.E. Architecture Studio undertakes the renovation of 100 year old heritage house in Kyoto, Japan. The space is meant to be a functional guest house and its reconstruction boasts design elements from both new and old movements. B.L.U.E. Architecture Studio aimed to preserve the traditional essence of the structure as much as possible by respecting the conventional timber frame and the facade. The studio updated the heritage house with splashes of modern influence with the tunnel-like main entrance, the contemporary furnished interior, as well as the concrete-walled bedroom and bathroom.

The heritage house is a comfortable juxtaposition between old and new design principles, yet B.L.U.E. Architecture Studio is successful in its preservation of the tranquil atmosphere of the Kyoto house.
