Hechingen Studio Uses Stacked Shipping Crates to Capture Sunlight

Architects incorporating shipping crates into their work isn't new, but not many have designed an office that looks quite like Hechingen Studio. James Whitaker, head of Whitaker Studio, created a conceptual office made up of a cluster of shipping containers. The containers appear to be haphazardly placed, but in reality this design has a purpose as the top crates funnel sunlight below.

The Hechingen Studio gets its name from the town of Hechingen, located in Germany near the Black Forest. The structure is raised above the ground and is on pillars, so it the occupants won't need to worry about flooding from rain or being locked inside by snow. The studio is just a concept for now as the company that commissioned it shut the project down before construction could begin.
