Cooling Helmets

In an Accident, the ThermaHelm Puts the Brain on Ice

The ThermaHelm is a head cooling helmet that mixes water and ammonium nitrate inside the carbon-fiber topper in the event of an accident. When the two lightweight chemical packs combine, a cooling reaction is triggered that could save lives in the crucial moments between impact and rescue.

A British man by the name of Jullian Preston-Powers designed the head cooling helmet after he was handed an ice-pack for a basketball injury. At $490, the ThermaHelm isn’t cheap and Preston-Powers is in the midst of designing an even more luxurious head cooling helmet that will include GPS, a video camera and Bluetooth and will retail for $815.
