Clever Collapsing Lamps

Hayo Gebauer Creates the Fun Cord Controlled Lighting

Entitled 'Collapse,' the lamp created by German designer Hayo Gebauer does just that. Gebauer, who is a student at Braumschwieg University of Art in the industrial design program, cleverly designed this lamp to fall down when off. Using the mechanism of a wobbling figure, the lamp was created to fall when the on/off cord was released. This cord is slotted through the wooden component of the lamp allowing it to hold up or fall down.

As explained on Gebauer's website, "the ball on the cable integrates a feeler, that closes the electric circuit, when put behind the pins." This tension keeps the entire lamp upright and on, yet once released, the light not only turns off from the removal of the feeler, but the weight of the foam shade allows it to flop over too.

Hayo Gebauer's collapse lamp is definitely a bright idea.
