Google's Area 120 Will Be Launching Byteboard Interview Assistance

Google's Area 120 will be releasing its Byteboard interview tool, which attempts to streamline technical interviews. The tool was designed to phase out standard interviewing processes for software engineers. Instead, The Byteboard tool will focus on a project-based evaluation. Candidates will be able to choose between their own coding location or the Byteboard web editor. Coding languages compatible with the tool include Python, Java, Ruby, C++, C#, as well as Go.

Google's Area 120 then has a team of engineers review the interview and score it on a standard evaluation process that encompasses 20 skills pertaining to software engineering. Some early implementations of the too have successfully replaced all interviews with Byteboard interviews. For example, Betterment used the tool to evaluate 50 prospective engineers and the results indicated 86% of successful candidates were regarded as good prospective engineers.
