Baby-Shaped Water Mosaics

Artist Belo's Mosaics Express the Global Clean Water Crisis

Artist Belo created an astounding piece of art to address the global clean water crisis. The gigantic mural is in the shape of a fetus to symbolize that water is essential to all life on Earth. The installation is made up of 66,000 biodegradable cups filled with rainwater tinted with vegetable dye to simulate the impurity in undrinkable water.

The sustainable piece of art was temporary; since the water eventually evaporated and the cups broke down, the work was photographed and prints were auctioned off on March 22, 2013 (World Water Day) at the 'ONE DROP' event. The artist's work and the fundraising event's mission was to make dirty drinking water a thing of the past.
