Wearable Feline Headpieces

Artist Housetu Sato Makes Photo-Realistic Fantasy Cat Heads

Sometimes the line between popular fashion and quirky ideas are imperceptibly thin. This is especially the case with the enormously oversized cat heads from Japanese artist Housetu Sato.

Called the 'Real Cat Head,' the photo-realistic cat heads function like a helmet and are actually made from felt. Housetu Sato created the first cat head with his students from the Japanese School of Wool Art. That head was displayed at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art museum.

Comfy and easy to wear, the cat heads are very labor-intensive to create. Each completed head takes approximately 1,000 hours to produce and this effort is reflected in the price of over $5,000 US apiece. Several different styles are available and custom colors can be ordered for an additional fee. Perfect for work or play, the cat heads are at home on the runways of Paris, the aisle of a wedding, or just a simple stroll in the park.
