Giacomo Bagnara Forms Images Using Plenty of Dashes and Marker Strokes

The drawing style of Giacomo Bagnara can easily be replicated by anyone. In fact, his illustrations often resemble the doodles of bored students scribbling away in their notebooks while they should be paying attention in class. The difference, however, is that Bagnara pushes this simplistic art style to extremes, crafting line drawings so meticulous and intricate that his architectural studies background is readily identifiable in his work.

Perhaps the best example of this is in his illustration of two overlapped male faces. Rather than simply shading in his canvas, Giacomo Bagnara chooses to define shadows and value using varied lengths of lines. Though this increases Bagnara’s work load, it also produces a visually unique effect that’s simultaneously messy and crisp.
