Redesigned Lab Equipment

This Genome Testing Device Gets a Designer Makeover From Yves Behar

This genome testing equipment redesign will have you rethinking what lab equipment looks like. You probably didn't think it was going to be purple.

Designed by Yves Behar's Fuseproject, this cell-scanning device is called Juno and was developed by biotech firm Fluidigm. Juno can eject a tray and accept samples at the push of a button. It combines different chemicals with heat to test DNA fingerprints. Intended for professional labs, the genome testing gadget helps determine things like if a person has a genetic disease or the makeup of a seed. Rather than using multiple machines for different steps of the process, Juno can complete genetic testing with a simple button press.

Yves Behar explains "the world of science and innovation deserves the same kind of design, attention, branding and experience as consumer products."
