Iconic Cartoon Mashups

The Simpsons Game of Thrones Tribute is a Pop Culture Combo

When The Simpsons Game of Thrones tribute aired during the infamous couch sequence of the show’s intro, it was like a televised battle of pop-culture phenomena.

In what could arguably be one of the more creative title sequences in Simpsons history, Springfield’s usual suspects were transformed into characters from HBO’s popular series about the violent struggles between noble families in medieval times. Straying from more traditional opening numbers, this homage clocked in at nearly one minute long, and expanded well beyond the usual blackboard and chesterfield components of Simpsons episodes of the past.

Evergreen Terrace, Springfield Gorge and Burns Landing were among the popular Springfield locations that were creatively compared to the kingdoms of Westeros, seen in Game of Thrones. Even the music that was playing in the background was representative of both television shows and added extra appeal to the entire montage.

The Game of Thrones tribute will leave fans of the HBO series anxiously awaiting season two, and Simpsons' fans expecting other creative opening sequences in the future.
