Futuristic Fusion Power Plants

This Power Plant Will Efficiently Contribute to the Electrical Grid

Tokamak Energy, a U.K.-based company that has pioneered advances in fusion energy, has offered a preview of a fusion power plant that it believes will be able to effectively convey electricity to the grid and power some 50,000 homes.

When completed, the 'ST-E1' power plant will be able to take up far less space and incur fewer costs than fission-based nuclear plants, due to the fact that the fusion process doesn't result in nuclear waste. This fusion power plant is expected to be built in the early 2030s.

Warrick Matthews, managing director of Tokamak Energy, said that while he acknowledges the crucial nature of renewable energy, fusion energy manages to fill a crucial gap in that it can allow for consistently reliable energy at all times regardless of weather conditions and without unduly exorbitant costs. "Fusion energy from power plants like this will be zero carbon, safe, secure, extremely efficient and run on limitless fuel from seawater," Matthews noted during Tokamak Energy's announcement. "Fusion is the ultimate energy source – no emissions and you can put a plant where you need it."
