If you're tired of emeralds, rubies and sapphires then you may want to try Fordite stones. These stones may not grow regularly underground like other precious minerals, but their history is just as storied. Coming from an age old tradition of hand-painted cars, Fordite stones comes from baked paint drying on automotive equipment in the moving process.
It's tough to imagine, but cars weren't always painted mechanically like they are now. Back in the day, cars used to be painted by hand on large assembly lines. The paint would be applied generously, but when it dripped off onto other surfaces the heat of the process would mold it into a hard, rock-like substance.
After the stones were polished, they appeared as multicolored and groove pieces of jewelry.
