This App Lets Shoppers Get Discounts On Products Nearing Expiry

Giant Food has tapped into the food waste app 'Flashfood' to make it possible for shoppers to go about purchasing products that are nearing their expiry date at a discount, allowing them to secure great deals for themselves whilst also enabling the supermarket to play a role in reducing food waste.

The 'Flashfood' food waste app allows customers to easily access discounts and special offers on products ranging from meat and seafood to produce, bakery items and dairy. What's more, the app doesn't merely act as a special offers brochure, but actually allows customers to make purchases directly on their phones and pick up their order the same day.

Currently being rolled out as part of a pilot program at two Giant Food locations in Maryland and one in Virginia, this app is a fine example of how supermarkets and their customers can both play a role in reducing food waste.
