Marcin Rusak's 'Flora Noir' Shows Off Tropical Patterns

Marcin Rusak, a designer based out of London, has created a series of furniture called 'Flora Noir' that depicts a clever reimagining of a familiar design. Floral designs on black backgrounds are an attractive and simple way to make any piece stand out, be it clothing, upholstery, or anything else. Rather than simply recreating this style, though, Flora Noir uses resin to capture actual leaves, flowers, and buds under the surface.

To create the floral patterns, Rusak collected waste materials from florists around London. After he had a diverse sampling, he arranged the best bits in an empty black mold, then filled that with dark translucent resin.

The Flora Noir collection includes a table, a cabinet, a lamp, and a decorative mantlepiece. The entire concept is an expansion of Rusak's earlier collection, which included the table and the lamp.
