Silhouette-Shaping Lamps

The YOY Floor Light is a Lamp That Shines a Lampshade-Shaped Light

Japanese design studio YOY is famous for coming up with ingenious design solutions in the realm of lighting. Its latest design is a wonderfully clever lamp named 'Floor Light', which emits a lampshade-shaped light to create a projected silhouette of a lamp shade.

The head of the Floor Light's pole contains a lampshade-shaped void in which a bulb is placed, hidden away from sight. When the lamp is switched on and turned so that the socket faces a wall or other flat vertical surface, the light shines out of the socket and casts a shape reminiscent of a lampshade. When switched off, the floor lamp is simply a minimalist, unassuming beam.

The Floor Light is made out of aluminum and plastic parts. YOY unveiled the ingenious lamp at Milan Design Week 2014.
