Floating Wind Farms

Hywind Pilot Park Will Take Advantage Of the North Sea Winds

Hywind pilot park is the name of a new floating wind farm, set to be located around 25 km off the northeast coast of Scotland near Peterhead, that is actually claimed to be the very first floating wind farm in the world. The structure will generate enough power to take care of the energy needs of 20,000 homes, and is expected to start functioning in late 2017.

These wind turbines will be placed away from the coast in deep water, and don't need to be anchored to sea floor-mounted structures. By locating them away from the shore, it is ensured that Hywind pilot park's structures won't obscure anyone's view, and more importantly can take advantage of the stronger winds found farther out at sea.

This floating wind farm shows that eco-friendly energy harnessing can indeed be done without inconveniencing communities.
