This Smart Floating Farm Could Address Severe Food Issues

Forward Thinking Architecture, an appropriately and wonderfully named firm based in Barcelona, Spain, has conceived a triple-decker floating farm that could go a long way towards helping easing food shortages in the future.

The world's population is expected to soar to 9.1 billion by 2050. When coupled with the increasingly disturbing effects of climate change on farming, a solution is urgently needed and Forward Thinking Architecture may have found one.

These triple-decker smart floating farms would feature as many as 2 square kilometers of fish farms, hydroponic gardens and rooftop solar panels that would power a floating barge. Each floating farm would be able to produce 8 tons of vegetables and 1.7 tons of fish every year.

This design looks ambitious indeed, but it's exactly the kind of thing that could help address the global need for food at a time when the population is expanding rapidly.
