Brazil's 85-Meter Tree Sets a World Record

The lighting of Brazil's Bradesco Seguros Christmas Tree is one of Rio de Janeiro's largest events of the year. This year's floating Christmas tree edition, the 15th at the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, was inaugurated at the beginning of December in a colorful spectacle of lights and fireworks. The floating Christmas tree is lit every night until Epiphany on January 6.

At 85 meters -- the equivalent of a 28-story building -- this floating Christmas tree is the world's tallest. What does it take to light up this giant tree? 105 km of light strands, 3.3 million miniature bulbs and 2,100 strobes. Fortunately, the power to light the tree up comes from six self-contained bio-fuel generators.
