Algae2Fish is a Nutritious Fish Alternative with Zero Bones

Algae2Fish is an innovative cultivated fish alternative that is packed with nutritional benefits and no bones. As a cultivated product, the fish alternative also manages to avoid the many negative environmental troubles caused by the industry. "During our process we will grow the fillet in a controlled environment without exposition to microplastics, heavy metals or other current contaminators of today’s seafood products," said project leader Frederico Ferreira to FoodNavigator. Algae2Fish is focused on the initial cultivation of seabass cells and 3D-printed scaffolding made from algae and plants.

The team behind Algae2Fish was one of 21 recipients to get funding from the GFI’s Competitive Research Grant program. This alt protein innovation supports the future of cultivated meat, fermentation, and plant-based foods.
