Measuring Economic Success Based on Finger Length

Out goes sex drive measure, and in comes performance and earning power, in recent scientific research. So size up your fingers - the economic crisis calls for as much success as you can get.

"Recent studies reveal that the length of a man’s ring finger may predict his Wall Street success."

A few years ago, scientists studied the connection between the length of students’ index and ring fingers and their performance in SATs. The study revealed that higher scores on the math SAT were clearly associated with students who had longer ring fingers compared to index fingers. Similarly, children with shorter ring fingers compared with the index had higher literacy SAT scores. Moreover, the greater the difference of the two fingers, the wider gap in scores for math versus literacy.

The Hormone Touch

According to scientists, different levels of the hormones testosterone and estrogen in the womb account for the different finger lengths. Prenatal exposure to testosterone makes the ring finger longer. This exposure is linked to higher development of areas of the brain often associated with spatial and mathematical skills; also associated with aggression, it may promote concentration and improve rapid decision-making skills. Estrogen exposure, on the other hand, tends to lengthen the index finger, and promotes the development of areas of the brain associated with verbal ability.

What we are not informed of yet is whether and how hormone levels in the womb are influenced and/or even controlled – could trigger the next prenatal anabolic!
