These Filipa Valente Flower Sculptures Move and Change Color

Artist Filipa Valente created metal floral sculptures called 'Mechanical Blooms' that had electronic controllers. The robotic flowers could move and change color based on light, temperature and pollution reading in the surrounding neighborhoods. The flowers made a breathing-like motion, which also changed based on how close the audience was.

The Heidi Duckler Dance Theater performed near the robotic plants to explore the relationship between machine, environment and city. Called the Liminoid Garden, this indoor metal jungle forces you to think about our relationship with pollution and climate change while also celebrating the transitional change in seasons from winter to spring.

We need to recognize the environmental statement the piece is trying to make; we have to take care of our Earth if we want to continue to see flowers bloom.
