In presenting at a solo exhibition in Paris based gallery Galerie Michel Rein, French Portuguese architect and artist Didier Faustino has managed to turn heads in his latest art installation.
Titled 'We Can't Go Home Again,' the exhibition features figures that look like humans lying on the gallery floor and walls. The carpets were carved from carpet material that were previously found on floors of residential buildings. Taken from their usual context, the carpet figurines subvert traditional domestic decor, stripped away from their natural environment.
The carpet figurines serve as a reminder of the instability and fragility of life and living as Faustino deconstructs traditional notions of space, materials and objects by re-constructing an entirely different and new environment for them in the Galerie Michel Rein.
