Veluw Simulates His Own Family Setting in 'Family/Origin of the Beginning'

Artist Levi van Veluw creates an art installation and video titled 'Family/Origin of the Beginning' where 20,000 wooden blocks are used to simulate a real-life setting. There are five people visible at the table where Veluw portrays his father, mother, brother, sister and himself.

The amazing part of the project is that there is no digital manipulation. All 20,000 wooden blocks are used to create such an incredible spectacle. Everyone is pictured to be calm at the table-sitting as a family. Although it is said that this family is "positioned in an abstract environment, unrecognizable and therefore far removed from reality." This shows us that there is a sense of loneliness and discomfort even when all seated together. As Veluw attempts to control and design the family structure, there are parts to the family that do not work. Within 'Family/Origin of the Beginning' there is an empty and dysfunctional aspect to the family, relating to Veluw's own family structure.
