Newline Design added a contemporary extension to the 'Richmond House,' a family home in Melbourne, Australia.
The main objective of the addition was to facilitate art throughout areas of work and play, while simultaneously respecting the aesthetic of the original structure. To do so, the designers tore down walls and opened up brand-new spaces that created internal vistas and connections throughout the interior. Each space is related to one another in some way, ensuring a flexible, informal and social internal arrangement.
The home's "light court" is the relief point within the home, in which the "old" and "new" meet and transition, fluidly and seamlessly, to create a space that is cohesive yet abstract in its form.
