Delectable Chicken Cruelty Spoofs

Food & Water Watch Makes Factory-Farmed Chicken Sound Delightful

The poignant 'Is it Factory-Farmed Chicken?' skit by Food & Water Watch is a humorous spoof on Portlandia’s 'Is it Local?' The original sketch by Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein focuses on a couple at a restaurant ordering a chicken for dinner and exhaustively questioning whether it was raised locally, organically and in a cruelty-free environment. Even though it’s still quite upbeat, Food & Water Watch puts a darker spin on the skit in its own version, showing a couple that asks about the chicken they are going to be eating, only to have the praises of factory farming sung to them by the waitress.

Although the chicken is made to seem completely unappetizing, the couple eats up all the grim information about factory farming. The ad cleverly asks people to consider: "would you really eat chicken if you knew the facts?"
