Facial Recognition Subway Payments

CUBIC is Trialing is Facial Recognition Payment Technology

CUBIC is a San Diego-based technology company that's attempting to develop a "fastrack gateless gateline" that would enable commuters to pay for train tickets via facial recognition payment technology.

The system will scan people's faces as they walk through a gate, while a paired smartphone app enables a seamlessly cashless transaction. An expected 65 to 75 people could walk through the gate per minute, minimizing long lines caused by patrons waiting to purchase physical tickets. If the technology scans a face which does not exist in the system, a red light will flash, alerting officials of the scamming attempt.

This technology would improve efficiency and functionality among various transportation systems, while eliminating the prevalence of individuals sneaking on trains without paying for a ticket.
