Dangerous Video Art

The Exploding Banana Head

William Lamson is a New York-based performance artist. His piece entitled "Think globally, act locally" involves him wearing a hockey mask with bananas attached; it makes him look like a banana porcupine. Not only that, but he had inserted firecrackers into every banana which are then lit one at a time. The explosions are spectacularly mushy - spraying all over the camera lens too!

It makes for weird, compulsive viewing. One internet comment likened it to popping bubble wrap. Another thought it scary and soothing at the same time.
