The latest video has been created by Venezuelan-American filmmaker Jason Silva, has launched an extremely heart-wrenching installment called 'Existential Bummer.' This installment is part of Silva's philosophical YouTube series 'Shots of Awe.'
In the beginning of the video, Silva quotes Ernest Becker, "[m]an is literally split in two: he has an awareness of his own splendid uniqueness in that he sticks out of nature with a towering majesty, and yet he goes back into the ground a few feet in order blindly and dumbly to rot and disappear forever."
The main theme of the clip is transience and entropy. He ties 'Existential Bummer' to the notion of being in love. Silva suggests that when people fall in love, they can make you extremely happy but melancholy at the same time. But why would we be sad? It's because in the moment of ecstasy, there is a fleeting moment of sadness, a sadness that is derived from the hint at the exception and a vision of something more, a temporary "rabbit hole" to fall through.
