Cartilage Bedecks the Body with the Espiritu de la Tierra Jewelry Line

Ana María and María Fernanda Gavilán are the twin sisters behind the brand De Polvo y Viento from which the Espiritu de la Tierra jewelry line emanates.

Inspired by the macabre, the design duo use natural elements from animal bodies to create gorgeous pieces of jewelry that then decorate human bodies. Whenever anyone wears one of these bone baubles, it is as if they are showing their inner being, the parts of their own body hidden behind layers of flesh and skin. This association acts as a reminder of our own mortality, yet it does so with such grace so as to encourage living a life full of beauty and humility.

Some of my favorite pieces from the Espiritu de la Tierra collection include the sweeping ear cuffs and headpieces.
