Astonishing Antipodal Collections

Erdem SS 2014 Collection Shows the Perfect Opposite

Erdem Moralioglu shocks and shakes up the runway with the Erdem SS 2014 collection. If you follow Mr. Moralioglu's work closely, you ought to know that Erdem is infamous for his polychromatic floral-printed designs, but for Spring/Summer 2014, you won't see an ounce of color in any collection of his.

Erdem departed from his usually upbeat designs and traded them in for elegant floor-length gowns made of sheer material, complemented with fierce feathers and lace appliqués and all in black and white. Not what I expected from the man that gave us the 60s mod-inspired color explosion and sequined Fall 2013 collection.

Adding in the occasional biker jacket and sporty sweater gives this line that extra oomph of life. Moralioglue took a leap of faith with next year's line and leap in the right direction. Though these clothes lack his usual abstract, unleashed creativity, they make up for it with their elegance, tied in with edge and a hint of sporty chic. The Erdem SS 2014 collection definitely caused a row on the catwalk with its un-Erdem styling -- but a row in the best possible way.
