Central Florida's 'Medical City' Project Planned Near Orlando

Central Florida has a spectacular vision for a premier cluster of medical facilities that will make it a beacon of leadership in the healthcare world.

Orlando, Florida, the ‘Land of the Mouse’ a.k.a. Disney World, is a world-class destination for pleasure-seeking tourists. It also has a fine educational institution in Central Florida University. This means that central Florida has transportation services and service infrastructure needed to develop an healthcare destination.

With this in mind, and with eyes on the future of medicine, central Florida plans to have a state-of-the-art leading-edge education, research and development, treatment, and commerce in a ‘medical city’ on 7,000 acres at Lake Nona, southwest of Orlando in place by 2012.

The Central Florida University just awarded its first class of medical students free tuition. Nemours Children’s Hospital has also broken ground.
