'Alfie' is a social robot created by the University of London School of Computer Science to keep the elderly engaged and independent. While social robots have been used in a number of different capacities, these researchers are looking at how such devices could be used to improve the lives of seniors.

Alfie was created as part of the ENRICHME project, which specifically focuses on elderly communities. The robot is currently being used by the LACE Housing Association as a tool for keeping the elderly engaged by assisting them with tasks such as setting up video calls or remembering to take their medication.

While Alfie is not designed to act as a substitute for human contact, the robot is a useful tool for improving the quality of life of senior citizen and reducing the workload of caretakers.
