Kengo Kuma and Associates have designed a children's literature museum in honor of the author Eiko Kadono. Located in Edogawa, Tokyo, the museum overlooks the spectacular views of Nagisa Park.
The museum will pay homage to Eiko Kadono, who wrote the famous story, "Kiki's Delivery Service" in 1985, and which later was turned into a film in 1989. The architects draw inspiration from Eiko Kadono's works to inform the museum's aesthetic. The space attempts to echo the atmosphere of the fictional town in Kadono's "Kiki's Delivery Service."
As museumgoers walk up the hill towards the museum, they are confronted with small little units that all resemble individual homes. The little house designs emulate the structures that often appear in Kadono's stories. The construction is expected to be completed in 2023.
